I decided to post about Korean Pears (Bae) today. Did you know that Korean pears are quite different from Western pears? I was actually shocked when I first saw a Western pear because it looked like a bell! 🍐 In contrast, Korean pears are huge, round, and golden-brown.

My daughter and I absolutely love them. They aren’t overly sweet like grapes or strawberries. Instead, they have a refreshing sweetness and are incredibly crispy and juicy.
The only problem? They are usually very expensive. Until last month, a pear of this size cost about 4,000 to 5,000 won ($3~$4) for just one! But today, I found a great deal at the mart: 4 pears for 10,000 won ($7)! I felt like I hit the jackpot. 🤩
Here is a fun fact: Most Korean women are experts at peeling apples and pears with a knife. I peeled one deftly and took a bite. Wow! The juice just exploded in my mouth. It felt like I was drinking a glass of fresh, cool pear juice.
My daughter loves pears so much that she ate boiled eggs and pears for breakfast and dinner before heading to school. It’s been such a happy day, just being able to eat delicious pears at a cheap price!
